About Our Driver’s Education Program
Accepting Students Ages 14 and Up
Northgate Driving School is the longest established driving school in the Southeast Minnesota region. We are a family-owned and operated program offering safe and high-quality driving instruction. Our classroom is set up for many different learning styles. We teach the rules, regulations, and skills for driving legally in Minnesota during the thirty classroom hours. We provide classroom instruction in several ways, including visual, oral, and reading methods. Every student receives their own Minnesota Driving Manual to take home and study.

Behind-the-Wheel
Our behind-the-wheel instruction incorporates a parent/student partnership. We strongly encourage scheduling the six driving hours evenly throughout the time they hold their permit. For example, schedule one driving hour every month, or one every other month. Our experience has shown that by spacing the driving hours, the student can practice the driving skills they have learned during the behind-the-wheel lesson. Our instructors can point out and correct any bad habits the students may have picked up.
Practice is Key
Practice after each driving hour is essential. We recommend that parents take 10 hours to practice driving after each behind-the-wheel hour before their next appointment with us. We make this recommendation so that we can prepare our students as much as possible. Your parental participation is essential.
